The original German stone house was built around 1868. You can find different initials and dates etched by hand on the exterior stones around the house, proof of the loving
hands that toiled to create this house and eke out a living on it's lands. On the side of the kitchen fireplace , you will find "V Durst and W Durst - 1868". That was William Durst, whose son John first held an actual title to the property in 1874. We wish they could tell us the stories of the lives that passed through this land and lived and died in this house.
What we DO know is that the house stood empty for at least 90 years, never having had electricity or running water. The roof was collapsing, the floors were dirt .... but the stone walls stood strong.
The house you see today was completed in the Fall of 2010. Now, you are very welcome to share Valentine Hill and the new "Little Houses of Valentine Hill".
Please contact the Owner, Judy Yancey, for reservations for VALENTINE HILL B&B. Rates start at $225/night on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday; Wed. - Sat. rate is $275/night, with 2 night minimum on weekends (Friday - SUn.)
